For the inaugural post (reference/pun VERY MUCH intended), I decided to visit an old friend. It’s been a while since I’ve played the whole C major Prelude, but it’s been in my life since I was 15 or 16 years old. In a masterclass I attended in college, Yo-Yo Ma called it “scalar, arpeggiated, sequential joy.” It seemed appropriate.
This is an imperfect performance, and an imperfect video. (I recorded it on my iPad and it cut off the end.) I wanted to upload it anyway, for two reasons. One, I simply don’t have time to re-record, and two, it doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be.
You’ll see me half-smile towards the end there, after a couple of medium-sized flubs. This is because, in large capital letters, I have written “DON’T PANIC” near that section of music. (I’ve made a lot of mistakes there.)
Art is a process. Music is a living, breathing thing. I may revisit this Prelude in the future. I hope my videography skills improve by then.
I probably won’t write as much on my future posts, but I wanted to give a little insight on this one. Please spread the word, and please share any creations you have made with me. Thanks, and take care of yourself and the ones you love. It’s going to be a long 4 years.
